Position Title:      Systems Administrator II (L2)

Location Information  St Louis, MO

 

Position Responsibilities:

As a System Administrator II, you will support secure operations in Closed Area environments by providing advanced support for workstations, servers, and network infrastructure. This position requires a detail-oriented and proactive administrator to ensure robust and secure computing environments for a diverse user base. Responsibilities include provisioning and maintaining systems, delivering end-user support, and adhering to strict operational and security procedures.

  • Maintain and support physical hardware in secured lab and network environments.
  • Deploy and provision virtual desktops and servers using VMware platforms.
  • Install, configure, and support complex multi-component applications.
  • Review peer installation and configuration documentation for accuracy and completeness.
  • Troubleshoot advanced OS, application, and integration issues across Windows and Linux systems.
  • Create and manage user accounts in Active Directory and Remote Access/VPN environments.
  • Deploy, maintain, and troubleshoot secure Group Policy Object (GPO) solutions.
  • Collaborate with end users, vendors, and technical SMEs to resolve technical issues efficiently.
  • Perform regular system backups and restore operations as required.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of operational and support processes.
  • Maintain update services and manage software and infrastructure updates (including patching, upgrades, and releases).
  • Advise technical stakeholders on optimal hardware architectures and software toolsets.
  • Support and administer multiple license server environments.
  • Provide guidance and support for Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) solutions.
  • Deliver on-site end user support for Closed Areas, covering desktops, laptops, and workstations.
  • Conduct IMACD (install, move, add, change, dispose) activities for computing assets.
  • Support and maintain dedicated network infrastructure from an operational perspective.
  • Apply system updates, software releases, and security patches utilizing WSUS and SCCM tools.
  • Track, manage, and resolve outstanding technical issues and escalations.

 

Essential Skills, Experience

  • Active DoD SCI clearance (required).
  • CompTIA Security+ CE certification (required).
  • Minimum 3 years of experience integrating, configuring, and troubleshooting various workstation, server, and network technologies.
  • Fluency in supporting both Windows and Linux environments, including installation and maintenance of Windows 10/11 and RHEL 8/9 operating systems.
  • Hands-on experience with server-based technologies and managing high-performance computing environments.
  • Competency in administering both Windows/Linux desktop and server systems.
  • Strong knowledge of basic network topology and operational support concepts.
  • Demonstrable ability to resolve hardware and software issues, install upgrades, and manage patching cycles.
  • Experience with Active Directory administration, including account management and group policy application.
  • Working experience with VMware for virtual machine provisioning (creation, template management, and resource allocation).
  • Proficiency with WSUS and SCCM for Microsoft ecosystem patch and configuration management.
  • Direct experience supporting both HP and Dell hardware.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interface with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Self-motivated, resourceful, and capable of working effectively in dynamic and high-security environments.

Qualifications:

  • Experience managing IT assets through network-based tools (such as antivirus, backup/recovery, vulnerability scanning, group policy, or auditing tools) is desirable.
  • Background supporting server-side technologies (including SQL, Web, or Exchange server roles) is a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to produce and edit technical documentation for internal or end-user purposes.
  • Exposure to scripting and automation (PowerShell, Bash, or Python) is considered an advantage.
