Position Title: Sr. Integrations Engineer
Location Information
Hybrid/Remote – Atlanta, GA or Dallas, TX (Contract to Hire)
Position Responsibilities:
As a Senior Integrations Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in designing, building, and operating enterprise-grade integration solutions on AWS. Collaborating closely with Lead Engineers and cross-functional teams, you will deliver API-based and event-driven integrations utilizing a modern tech stack including Apache Kafka, AWS EventBridge, SNS, SQS, ECS, and EKS. You will have end-to-end ownership of integration workstreams, contribute to architectural decisions, manage infrastructure through Terraform, and deliver production-quality results leveraging robust CI/CD practices.
Key responsibilities include:
- Technical Design & Implementation:
- Design and implement scalable, event-driven integration solutions connecting enterprise systems, SaaS platforms, and internal services.
- Develop and maintain Kafka producers, consumers, and streams apps on Amazon MSK, employing topic design best practices and schema management with Avro/JSON.
- Build production-grade, containerized services and event consumers on Amazon ECS (Fargate) and EKS using Docker, Helm charts, and Kubernetes manifests.
- Create RESTful and event-based API integrations using AWS API Gateway and Lambda while adhering to contract-first design and OpenAPI/AsyncAPI standards.
- Implement workflow automation using SNS, SQS (including FIFO queues), EventBridge buses, and Step Functions for reliable, stateful integrations.
- Contribute to real-time and batch data pipelines with Kafka Streams, Kinesis, AWS Glue, and DMS for seamless data movement.
- Infrastructure & CI/CD:
- Design and maintain Terraform modules for core AWS integration infrastructure (MSK, ECS/EKS, EventBridge, SQS/SNS, IAM), ensuring automation and version control.
- Develop CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions for infrastructure and application deployments, automated testing, security scanning, and container workflows.
- Promote a no-drift, automated production environment with robust state management and compliance practices.
- Integration Patterns & Governance:
- Apply proven integration patterns (publish/subscribe, outbox, saga, idempotence, dead-letter handling) to deliver robust and scalable solutions.
- Adhere to and help define API design standards, versioning, and contract-first development processes.
- Ensure high observability with structured logging, metrics collection, and distributed tracing via AWS CloudWatch and X-Ray.
- Apply security best practices throughout integrations (IAM, VPC, private endpoints, secrets management, encryption).
- Production Support & Operations:
- Provide Tier 2/3 support for production workloads—troubleshooting incidents, resolving issues, and contributing to operations documentation and post-incident improvements.
- Tune and optimize integration workloads for SLA compliance, monitoring consumer lag, queue depths, and auto-scaling settings.
- Participate in on-call rotations and improve incident response processes through runbook development and knowledge sharing.
- Collaboration & Mentorship:
- Work cross-functionally with lead engineers, data, product, and security teams to ensure integration solutions align with business needs.
- Provide feedback through code/design reviews and mentor junior engineers on the team.
- Documentation & Standards:
- Develop and maintain clear documentation—design documents, architecture diagrams, ADRs, and operational runbooks.
- Champion and enforce coding, testing, and development standards.
- Continuous Learning:
- Stay abreast of AWS and Kafka advances (EventBridge Pipes, Kafka Streams, KEDA, etc.) and proactively share insights and improvement ideas.
- Drive continuous improvement in integration reliability, developer experience, and delivery speed.
Essential Skills, Experience
- 5–7 years of experience in software or integration engineering, with a proven history of end-to-end integration delivery.
- 2+ years hands-on experience with Apache Kafka or Amazon MSK, including topic design, consumer group management, and Schema Registry implementation (Avro/JSON Schema/Protobuf).
- In-depth knowledge of AWS services for event-driven integration: EventBridge, SNS, SQS, Lambda, ECS (Fargate), EKS, API Gateway, Step Functions, Kinesis, Glue, DMS.
- Strong hands-on with container platforms: authoring Dockerfiles, deploying to ECS/EKS, managing Kubernetes workloads (Helm, manifests, IRSA, HPA/KEDA).
- Expertise in Terraform for AWS infrastructure (module authoring, remote state, automation) and CI/CD practices using GitHub Actions.
- Understanding and application of enterprise integration patterns and best practices for reliability, security, and observability.
- Proficiency in at least one of: Python, Java, Node.js, or C#/.NET for the development of Lambda functions, container services, and Kafka consumers.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Proven collaborative style with the ability to mentor others and proactively contribute to team improvement.
- Structured problem-solving approach, focused on operational excellence.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Preferred Certifications:
- AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate
- AWS Certified Developer – Associate
- Confluent Certified Developer for Apache Kafka (CCDAK)
- HashiCorp Certified: Terraform Associate
- Certified Kubernetes Application Developer (CKAD)
