Position Title: Sr. Controls Engineer
Location Information
Onsite – Reno, NV
Position Responsibilities:
As a Sr. Controls Engineer supporting two key generation facilities, you will serve as a vital resource for all plant controls systems. Your core focus will be troubleshooting controls systems to ensure plant units remain online and operate with maximum reliability. In this hands-on role, you will:
- Act as the primary troubleshooter for day-to-day controls issues across multiple sites.
- Quickly diagnose, resolve, and document controls-related problems impacting plant operation and reliability.
- Interpret, analyze, and resolve logic issues, alarms, and abnormal operating conditions within plant control systems.
- Support and contribute to ongoing controls system upgrades, plant modifications, improvements, and long-term performance projects.
- Participate in cross-functional project teams focused on engine, plant, and system improvements.
- Share time and expertise between two Reno-area power generation facilities, requiring periodic travel within Nevada.
- Work collaboratively with site instrumentation technicians, corporate engineering, and leadership to achieve operational goals.
- Enhance and update technical runbooks, troubleshooting guides, and process documentation for improved knowledge sharing and problem-solving.
Essential Skills, Experience
The ideal candidate for the Sr. Controls Engineer role possesses deep controls engineering fundamentals, outstanding troubleshooting abilities, and a passion for optimizing plant operations. Key requirements include:
- Proven experience with Emerson Ovation control systems (strongly preferred). Candidates with GE Mark VI (Mark 6) system experience or strong controls fundamentals are also encouraged to apply.
- Strong ability to interpret block logic and related controls system logic structures.
- Demonstrated industrial controls troubleshooting expertise, ideally within a power generation, renewable energy, or similar industrial facilities environment.
- A minimum of 5+ years of relevant engineering or industrial controls experience.
- Commitment to a long-term career in controls engineering.
- Previous experience supporting power generation facilities is a plus, though not strictly required; backgrounds across renewable and thermal generation will be considered.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with a proven ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary technical teams as well as site leadership.
- Ability to adapt quickly, efficiently prioritize troubleshooting tasks, and maintain composure when resolving complex operational problems.
- Demonstrated initiative in developing, improving, or updating technical documentation or standard operating procedures.
