Position Title: Network Security Engineer (Firewall & F5)
Location Information
Indianapolis, IN – Onsite support required
Position Responsibilities:
We are seeking a hands-on Network Security Engineer with expertise in firewalls (especially Palo Alto Networks) and F5 technologies to support enterprise-level security and network initiatives in a regulated environment. In this role, you will play a pivotal part in designing, implementing, supporting, and optimizing critical firewall and application delivery solutions for a large-scale organization. You’ll work closely with internal teams and stakeholders—technical and non-technical alike—to ensure robust security postures, compliance with industry regulations, and smooth network operations.
Essential Skills, Experience
- Design, implement, and support enterprise firewall solutions, with a strong focus on Palo Alto Networks firewalls.
- Configure, manage, and troubleshoot F5 technologies (including modules such as LTM, GTM/DNS, ASM) in complex, regulated environments.
- Build, maintain, and optimize firewall and application delivery policies, rule sets, and configurations to address business and security requirements.
- Act as a hands-on delivery engineer for multiple, concurrent security and network projects, ensuring quality and timely implementation.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues related to firewalls, F5 platforms, and related infrastructure.
- Work directly with security architects and stakeholders to translate compliance and security policies into effective technical controls and solutions.
- Document designs, network changes, runbooks, and standard procedures for ongoing support and operations.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (network, security, application, operations) and communicate clearly with stakeholders, including those without a technical background.
- Provide support for additional firewall platforms as needed, including SAP-related or other vendor solutions.
- Apply and maintain security best practices and compliance in all tasks and projects.
- Proven ability to execute projects independently, escalate effectively, and foster collaboration when required.
- Strong root-cause analysis, troubleshooting, and remediation skills across both network and security platforms.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, especially when interacting with non-technical stakeholders.
- Experience with documenting technical work for knowledge sharing and operational continuity.
Qualifications:
- 5+ years of hands-on experience as a Network Security Engineer, Firewall Engineer, or similar role supporting enterprise firewalls and F5 technologies in production environments.
- Significant experience with Palo Alto Networks solutions (policy creation, rule tuning, troubleshooting, upgrades).
- Production-level exposure to F5 modules (LTM, GTM/DNS, ASM or similar), including deployment, management, and troubleshooting.
- Past work in regulated environments such as financial services, healthcare, utilities, or other governed industries, with a strong understanding of security compliance requirements.
- Proven track record of independently delivering technical projects and collaborating effectively in team settings.
- Excellent troubleshooting skills with the ability to conduct in-depth root-cause analysis and implement remediation in complex network/security scenarios.
- Demonstrated capacity to communicate technical information clearly and concisely to audiences with varying levels of cybersecurity knowledge.
- Must be located in, or willing to relocate to, the Indianapolis, IN area with the readiness to support onsite work as required.
