Position Title: Part-Time Security Engineer

Location Information: Remote – Kansas City

Position Responsibilities:

We are looking for a Part-Time Security Engineer to join our Information Security team on a contract basis. In this role, you will support operational security activities, assist with incident response, and manage daily administrative tasks. Key responsibilities include:

• Palo Alto Firewall Administration:
  • Manage adds, moves, and changes within the firewall environment.
  • Investigate blocked traffic and create new rules as needed.
  • Support on-premises and cloud (AWS/OCI) Palo Alto firewalls.
• Cortex XDR Management:
  • Administer, maintain, and troubleshoot endpoint agents.
  • Address user issues, unlock requests, and agent upgrade compliance.
  • Ensure agent health, licensing, and operational continuity.
• Networking & Cloud Security:
  • Support hybrid network environments spanning on-premises and AWS.
  • Perform troubleshooting and analysis using logs and monitoring tools.
  • Work with AWS networking and firewall configurations; familiarity with AWS WAF is a plus.
  • Optional exposure to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) networking and firewalls.
• General Security Operations:
  • Provide support in emergency situations outside of scheduled hours when critical.
  • Collaborate with team members via Slack, Webex, and team huddles.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and contribute to process improvement.

Essential Skills, Experience:

• Hands-on expertise with Palo Alto Networks Firewalls and Cortex XDR.
• Solid understanding of AWS networking and security concepts.
• Experience with on-premises networking and firewall administration.
• Familiarity with Cisco Umbrella (DNS security).
• Ability to investigate, troubleshoot, and resolve complex security issues.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a remote environment.

Qualifications:

Preferred (Nice to Have):

• Experience with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) networking and firewalls.
• Prior exposure to AWS WAF management.
• Familiarity with hybrid or multi-cloud security architectures.
