Position Title: Security Operations Center Manager

Location Information: Hybrid – Kansas City

Position Responsibilities:

Leadership & Team Development:

  • Lead and mentor a team of 6 security engineers, analysts, and incident response managers, ensuring a high-performance, collaborative environment.
  • Promote a culture of continuous learning, knowledge-sharing, and operational excellence.
  • Empower your team through guidance and support, fostering trust, transparency, and collaboration.

Security Operations & Incident Response:

  • Oversee and manage threat monitoring, detection, triage, and escalation procedures on a 24×7 basis.
  • Led incident response protocols and vulnerability management for effective responses to security threats and incidents.
  • Ensure the team is well-equipped to handle security incidents across networks, cloud infrastructure, and applications.

Strategic Planning & Collaboration:

  • Collaborate with senior leadership to develop and implement security strategies, policies, and procedures.
  • Identify and address security gaps, adapting security operations to evolving threats and compliance requirements.
  • Contribute to security programs aligned with frameworks such as NIST and drive security initiatives related to cloud security, DevSecOps, and application security.
  • Work cross-functionally with IT operations, development teams, and business units to integrate security best practices across the organization.

Metrics & Reporting:

  • Provide operational reports and security metrics to senior leadership, demonstrating effectiveness of security measures and areas for improvement.
  • Ensure the team delivers actionable insights and recommendations to enhance security posture and compliance with industry standards.

Management Responsibilities:

  • Lead a team of security engineers, analysts, and incident response managers.
  • Manage team performance and development in alignment with organizational goals and security objectives.
  • Direct day-to-day operations of the Security Operations Center and its initiatives.

Essential Skills, Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Security, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in Information Security, with at least 2 years in a leadership or managerial role.
  • Professional certification such as CISSP (Certified Information Systems Security Professional) or equivalent.
  • Strong technical foundation in security technologies like SIEM, SOAR, EDR, firewalls, vulnerability scanners, and cloud security platforms.
  • Proven experience managing and leading a Security Operations Center (SOC) or similar security team.
  • Demonstrated ability to interface with technical teams and drive cross-functional collaboration.
  • Familiarity with NIST 800-series and other relevant frameworks.
  • Experience in cloud security (AWS, Google Cloud) and DevSecOps practices is a plus.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • CISSP certification, with experience in both operational and strategic aspects of the security role.
  • Experience working with Google SIEM or similar security tools.
  • Familiarity with managing a co-managed platform with a third-party provider for security operations.
  • Previous experience in cloud architecture security and security in a DevOps environment.
  • Familiarity with application security and vulnerability management in modern software development pipelines.
