Position Title:  Senior AWS Cloud Application Engineer (Python) 

Location Information

Position Responsibilities:

As a Senior AWS Cloud Application Engineer (Python), you will be instrumental in designing, building, and maintaining enterprise applications within a secure AWS environment. Your role will be both hands-on and highly collaborative, working directly with developers, architects, and business stakeholders to deliver robust, scalable, and maintainable cloud solutions. Key responsibilities include:

• Design, develop, test, and maintain production-grade Python applications and microservices following best practices.
• Build and manage AWS cloud infrastructure with Infrastructure as Code using AWS Cloud Development Kit (CDK).
• Develop serverless applications and orchestrate workflows using AWS Lambda and AWS Step Functions.
• Design, build, and maintain RESTful APIs, implementing effective versioning, integration, and error handling strategies.
• Implement and maintain containerized applications using Docker for scalable deployment.
• Ensure robust application and infrastructure logging, monitoring, and auditing via Amazon CloudWatch and AWS CloudTrail.
• Develop, maintain, and enhance CI/CD pipelines for automated deployment of cloud solutions across multiple environments.
• Write and maintain comprehensive unit and integration tests; perform code remediation as necessary.
• Take an active role in code reviews, focusing on quality, maintainability, performance, and adherence to security best practices.
• Collaborate in Git-based workflows, managing branching, merge requests, and peer reviews for effective code management.
• Contribute to architectural decisions, documenting solutions and technical approaches thoroughly.
• Translate business requirements into effective technical solutions by working closely with internal teams and stakeholders.
• Participate fully in Agile SDLC processes, including sprint planning, iterative development, continuous delivery, deployment, and process improvement.

Essential Skills, Experience

The ideal candidate has deep experience in modern Python development, AWS cloud services, and the tools and practices needed to build secure, reliable, and scalable cloud applications. The following skills and experience are essential:

• 7+ years of hands-on software development experience, with a focus on Python programming and modern frameworks.
• Experience building distributed, microservices-based architectures in the cloud.
• Proficient in Infrastructure as Code using AWS CDK and/or Terraform.
• Strong practical knowledge of AWS serverless computing, including Lambda, Step Functions, and related AWS services.
• Proven experience designing RESTful APIs, covering versioning, interface design, integrations, and error handling.
• Familiarity with containerization and deployment using Docker.
• Experience implementing and optimizing CI/CD pipelines, including automated testing and deployment for cloud-native solutions.
• Deep understanding of Git-based source control and development workflows.
• Practical experience with core AWS services (DynamoDB, S3, API Gateway, CloudWatch, CloudTrail).
• Participation in Agile development teams utilizing iterative delivery, code reviews, and collaborative methodologies.
• Strong problem-solving, troubleshooting, and communication skills.
• U.S. citizenship required due to onsite and security requirements.
• Must be able to work full-time onsite in Washington, DC.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a closely related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
• Preferred: Experience with front-end technologies such as Angular or React and TypeScript.
• Preferred: Knowledge of additional AWS services such as SNS, SQS, Athena, AWS Glue, and Elastic Load Balancing.
• Preferred: Experience developing or supporting applications deployed across multi-cloud environments.
• Preferred: Experience with GitLab, especially for CI/CD pipeline management.
• Preferred: Experience incorporating AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Claude Code or similar) for code review, generation, debugging, and testing.
