Position Title: Test Automation Engineer
Location Information Remote
Position Responsibilities:
We are seeking a highly skilled Test Automation Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will collaborate closely with Senior Test Automation Engineers, QA, development, and product teams within an Agile environment. You will focus on API automation, the expansion of automation frameworks, and driving quality initiatives throughout modern CI/CD pipelines. A strong understanding of complex business rules and regulatory requirements (such as state insurance) is essential, as you will translate these into comprehensive automated test coverage. Typical responsibilities include:
- Design, develop, and maintain automated test cases for UI and API components, ensuring high coverage and reliability.
- Implement test cases within existing automation frameworks, enhancing and extending framework capabilities as needed.
- Create and sustain API automation tests using Cucumber with Karate and/or Rest Assured.
- Translate complex business and regulatory requirements into clear, executable test scenarios.
- Write clean, maintainable automation code using Java and JavaScript aligned with best practices.
- Execute and maintain automated tests as part of modern CI/CD pipeline processes.
- Coordinate and support integration, regression, and performance testing efforts across multiple projects.
- Analyze test results, identify defects, and accurately log issues using JIRA or similar tracking tools.
- Collaborate as an active member of a cross-functional Agile/Scrum team, communicating findings and contributing to process improvements.
- Participate in discussions around test strategy and provide quality-focused input throughout the software development lifecycle (SDLC).
Essential Skills, Experience
The successful candidate will demonstrate the following essential skills and experience:
- 5+ years of experience in Quality Assurance with a significant focus on test automation.
- Proven experience applying Behavior Driven Development (BDD) practices using the Cucumber framework.
- Strong programming background with Java or other JVM-based languages; experience with JavaScript is also required.
- Professional experience utilizing Git and related version control tools in a production environment.
- Experience with Integrated Development Environments (IDEs) such as IntelliJ or Eclipse.
- Solid understanding of REST APIs, web services, microservices, and approaches to testing them thoroughly.
- Experience with XML and web service testing including various payload and schema validation techniques.
- Strong SQL skills for query writing, data retrieval, and data validation within automated test scripts.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively work in and contribute to cross-functional Agile teams.
Preferred additional skills and experience include:
- Hands-on experience with leading automation tools such as Cypress, Selenium, or Rest Assured.
- Performance testing experience using tools such as JMeter and/or BlazeMeter.
- Experience with cloud platforms, preferably AWS or similar cloud technologies.
- Familiarity testing highly regulated or rules-driven applications, such as those in the insurance industry.
- Background in designing scalable and maintainable test automation solutions for large systems.
- Clear understanding of the full software development lifecycle, including analysis, design, implementation, and ongoing evolution.
- Ability to understand programming logic, development concepts, and participate in technical discussions.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to gather and interpret requirements through interviews and observation.
