Position Responsibilities:

We are seeking a hands-on Vice President of Information Technology to lead the restaurant technology organization at an established company. This executive leadership role offers a unique opportunity to shape technology strategy and architecture while remaining directly involved in technical planning, decision-making, and complex problem-solving across the enterprise.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Provide vision and leadership for all restaurant technology systems and strategy, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
  • Oversee and mentor a team of 5–6 direct reports, building a collaborative and high-performing IT organization.
  • Lead all enterprise technology functions including: Restaurant Systems, POS, Finance and HR Systems, Network Infrastructure, Security, and supporting enterprise applications.
  • Guide and manage the enterprise rollout of Toast POS across all locations, ensuring seamless adoption and operation.
  • Maintain, support, and continuously improve core restaurant technology systems, such as Kitchen Display Systems (KDS), online ordering platforms, AI ordering platforms, and back-office applications.
  • Ensure smooth system integrations spanning restaurant operations, financial/HR systems, security, inventory management, and more.
  • Modernize and maintain legacy environments, focusing on minimizing disruption and ensuring ongoing business continuity.
  • Understand and oversee architecture and data flows throughout the organization’s interconnected technology systems.
  • Collaborate closely with Operations, Finance, HR, and Executive Leadership to keep technology initiatives aligned with business priorities.
  • Lead executive meetings, Board presentations, vendor negotiations, and technical team sessions.
  • Provide direction during high-priority production issues, coordinating root cause analysis and driving rapid, sustainable resolution.
  • Oversee relationships with technology vendors; lead contract negotiations and strategic partnership management.
  • Coach and foster growth for technical leaders, promoting a culture of operational excellence and continuous process improvement.
  • Drive strategic planning, operational metrics gathering, and executive technology reporting initiatives.

 

Essential Skills, Experience

  • 10+ years of progressive IT leadership, ideally within the restaurant or hospitality industry, supporting multi-unit operations.
  • Strong hands-on knowledge of restaurant technology ecosystems including POS (preferably Toast POS), back-office, KDS, online ordering, restaurant hardware, and key operational technologies.
  • Significant experience leading or supporting major enterprise POS implementations.
  • Demonstrated understanding of front-of-house and back-of-house restaurant operations and how technology enables each.
  • Working knowledge across enterprise domains: Finance, HR, POS, Network Infrastructure, Security, Inventory Management, and restaurant operations with a solid grasp of system integrations.
  • Track record of supporting, integrating, and modernizing complex, legacy technology environments with minimal operational disruption.
  • Notable hands-on technical leadership with the ability to lead architecture discussions, problem-solve complex issues, and guide technology teams (without being the primary engineer).
  • Proficiency or familiarity with key enterprise applications and tooling, such as Toast POS, InfoSync, RightV Web, IBM Cognos, Teradata, HotSchedules, Paycom, and CrunchTime.
  • Proven ability to lead executive-level meetings, facilitate technical and operational discussions, and communicate effectively with both business and technology stakeholders.
  • Experience in vendor management, contract negotiation, and partnership oversight.
  • Strength in technology team mentorship, coaching, and cultivating a culture of operational excellence.
  • Experience within small to mid-sized organizations highly valued, particularly where technology leaders are hands-on and involved in daily operations.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Business, or related field preferred.
