Position Title: Principal Infrastructure Engineer

Remote | 6 Month Contract
Position Responsibilities:
As a Principal Infrastructure Engineer, you will lead technical innovation, strategy, and oversight for comprehensive IT systems and cloud infrastructure. You'll design, implement, and maintain IT networks, services, and applications, ensuring security, scalability, and reliability. This position involves mentoring engineering teams, driving best practices, and aligning technology solutions with business objectives. Responsibilities include:
- Technical Leadership & Mentorship: Provide hands-on direction and mentoring to engineers, developing and upholding technical standards and best practices.
- Cloud Infrastructure Management: Architect, provision, and manage services within AWS and Google Cloud Platform (GCP) environments (including IAM, EC2, SSM, ECS Fargate, ALB, RDS, S3, DynamoDB, GCP Cloud Run, API Gateway, ALBs, Firestore, Artifactory).
- Access & Security Management: Administer access controls (GCP IAM, AWS IAM) and ensure implementation of strict security-first policies. Conduct vulnerability assessments and risk management initiatives.
- Automation & CI/CD: Build and maintain automation workflows, including Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, AWS CloudFormation), automated build pipelines (Azure DevOps, Bitbucket), and containerized build runners.
- Hybrid Delivery: Oversee and maintain pipelines and automation for both cloud-native and legacy on-premise systems (Windows, Linux).
- Application Support & Troubleshooting: Troubleshoot complex build, deployment, and infrastructure challenges, especially in support of .NET Core environments on AWS and GCP.
- Innovation & Strategy: Actively implement new technology trends and recommend improvements to IT systems to optimize performance, efficiency, and business value.
- Project & Budget Management: Manage and deliver technology projects on time and within budget, collaborating closely with vendors and cross-functional teams.
- Stakeholder Communication: Clearly communicate technological solutions and project statuses to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate and current documentation of IT infrastructure, systems, and networks.
- Continuous Improvement: Identify gaps and lead continuous improvement of infrastructure processes and solutions.
- Additional Requirements: Participate in on-call rotation and provide after-hours support as needed; limited travel (~10%).
Essential Skills, Experience
- 10+ years of relevant technology experience in infrastructure, software development, security, and/or cloud engineering roles.
- Extensive hands-on expertise with AWS and Google Cloud Platform (GCP) cloud services, architecture, and administration.
- Mandatory experience designing, deploying, and maintaining CI/CD pipelines in Azure DevOps and Bitbucket; experience with other modern CI/CD platforms a plus.
- Strong skills in Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform (with GCP) and AWS CloudFormation.
- Proficient in automation, scripting, and configuration management (experience with Ansible, AAP, Bash/Python scripting, and containerized build runners).
- Demonstrated expertise with server operating systems (Windows, Linux) and legacy/hybrid on-prem deployments.
- Proven experience in troubleshooting and supporting .NET/.NET Core environments; familiarity with build and deployment operations in multi-cloud settings.
- Deep understanding of cloud networking, routing, and security best practices; experience with security tools such as CrowdStrike, Tenable, and Splunk.
- Hands-on containerization experience (Docker, ECS Fargate, GCP Cloud Run) and orchestration for cloud-native and hybrid workloads.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to convey technical subjects to diverse audiences and align IT solutions with business objectives.
- Demonstrated leadership capabilities: effective team mentoring, decision-making, problem-solving, innovation, adaptability, and integrity.
- Experience with IT vendors, service providers, and IT budget management is a plus.
- Relevant industry certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect, GCP Professional Cloud Architect, CI/CD, security certifications) are preferred.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related technical discipline; substantial relevant experience and/or certifications may substitute for a degree.
- 10+ years in technology infrastructure and engineering roles, including experience in leadership and technical project delivery.
