Position Title: Datacenter Critical Facilities Engineer

Position Responsibilities:
As a Datacenter Critical Facilities Engineer, you will be responsible for the safe operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of vital building infrastructure systems including HVAC, electrical, chilled water, generators, UPS, and air handlers. You will ensure consistent and uninterrupted datacenter operations by proactively managing equipment, responding to both scheduled and emergency situations, and serving as the on-site point of contact for all facility matters. Your key tasks will include:
- Serve as the primary on-site engineer for all infrastructure operations, including handling manual system interventions and performing safe resets during after-hours incidents to prevent larger outages.
- Operate, monitor, and maintain all critical datacenter infrastructure systems, such as power distribution, cooling systems (air and water), UPS units, backup generators, and related monitoring systems.
- Respond promptly to both emergency and scheduled maintenance requirements across electrical and mechanical domains, including HVAC, UPS, generators, and power distribution systems.
- Troubleshoot and diagnose equipment failures, implementing corrective actions to restore or maintain operational status.
- Perform electrical maintenance in compliance with established safety protocols, specifically Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) and main breaker resets.
- Ensure strict adherence to all federal, state, and local safety regulations, including OSHA, EPA, and NFPA standards, as well as contribute to safety programs like hazardous materials management and recycling.
- Act as the principal liaison and quality control agent for third-party service and repair vendors, maintaining close coordination with all stakeholders.
- Contribute to facility upgrade or maintenance projects, participating in equipment replacement, configuration, and installation activities.
- Provide 24/7 operational support, including nights, weekends, and responding to emergency recall scenarios as needed.
- Lead or support emergent facility issues, escalating and coordinating responses with leadership and technical teams as appropriate.
Essential Skills, Experience
The ideal candidate will bring substantial technical and practical skills in the field of datacenter or facilities engineering. Essential skills and experience include:
- Minimum 5 years of experience in datacenter facilities operations or equivalent critical infrastructure environment.
- At least 1 year of hands-on experience with electrical distribution panels, including safe breaker operations and interpreting electrical schematics.
- Proven experience working with at least one of the following systems: HVAC, UPS, backup generators, or power distribution units (PDUs).
- Solid working knowledge of modern datacenter systems, including security, safety, environmental controls, and building management systems.
- Demonstrated ability to evaluate power requirements, support hardware installation, and manage the lifecycle of equipment including moves, replacements, and decommissioning.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to convey technical information clearly to leadership, vendors, and clients.
- Strong organizational, time management, and prioritization skills along with a demonstrated track record of reliability and punctuality.
- Self-starter mentality, showing initiative and the ability to work independently with minimal oversight.
- Commitment to high standards of safety, quality, and customer service.
Qualifications:
- Ability to pass a federal background investigation and obtain a Public Trust clearance.
- Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English.
- Capability to interface with government personnel and contract leadership when required.
