Position Title: Enterprise Cloud Architect
Location Information
Hybrid schedule (Mon–Thu on-site, Fri remote), downtown Kansas City, MO
Position Responsibilities:
As an Enterprise Cloud Architect, you will play a key role in defining and evolving cloud-native platform and enterprise architecture strategies. Your work will drive enterprise-wide adoption of cloud solutions while ensuring business alignment, regulatory compliance, and adherence to best practices. You’ll blend high-level vision with technical leadership, collaborating closely across business, technology, and leadership teams.
- Enterprise Architecture & Strategy:
- Define and maintain enterprise cloud strategies, reference architectures, and design patterns in line with modernization roadmaps.
- Lead the enterprise architecture discipline across business and IT domains.
- Identify and analyze emerging technology trends relevant to the organization, ensuring readiness for change.
- Develop, maintain, and update current, transitional, and future state architectural contexts across domains.
- Build consensus for cloud adoption and ensure strategic alignment across both technical and business stakeholders.
- Assess and document integration points between on-premises and cloud systems, focusing on security, compliance, and governance.
- Cloud Solutions & Design:
- Architect and design comprehensive cloud solutions (SaaS, PaaS, IaaS) that meet business, compliance, and cost objectives.
- Translate business and technical requirements into robust, scalable cloud infrastructure and services.
- Lead the evaluation, selection, and establishment of cloud technology product standards.
- Design and deliver infrastructure-as-code frameworks and reusable architectural components.
- Set governance frameworks and establish technology standards, principles, and best practices.
- Platform Engineering & Operations:
- Design and implement CI/CD pipelines and champion DevOps methodologies for agility and efficiency.
- Develop, implement, and oversee automation frameworks and configuration management processes.
- Establish operational standards for infrastructure monitoring, observability, and reliability.
- Ensure architectures and automations fulfill regulatory compliance and security controls.
- Participate in on-call support and operational escalations when required.
- Coach, mentor, and collaborate with subject matter experts and architecture peers to strengthen technical capabilities organization-wide.
- Mentor development and infrastructure teams on leveraging cloud capabilities and DevOps best practices.
- Clearly communicate architectural vision and technical decisions to executives, business leaders, and technical teams.
- Develop and maintain technology roadmaps, reusable documentation, and architectural patterns.
- Serve as a key internal resource for cloud and architectural expertise.
Essential Skills, Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field—or equivalent practical experience.
- 10+ years of progressive IT experience, with at least 5 years in enterprise or solutions architecture.
- 5+ years designing and implementing scalable, highly available cloud architectures on AWS, Azure, or GCP.
- 3+ years architecting and deploying cloud-native services for enterprise environments.
- 2+ years establishing observability and operational excellence (metrics, logging, tracing).
- 2+ years working with IT controls, compliance frameworks, and security standards.
- Proven leadership managing cross-functional teams and influencing senior-level stakeholders.
- Expertise in infrastructure-as-code (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation, CDK).
- Strong knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and cost optimization strategies.
- Advanced understanding of cloud security, identity, and compliance (e.g., IAM, encryption, VPC).
- Experience with automation scripting languages (Python, PowerShell, Bash).
- Working knowledge of containerization and orchestration (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes, ECS, EKS).
- Practical experience designing CI/CD pipelines and implementing DevOps workflows.
- Hands-on experience with configuration management tools (Ansible, Chef, Puppet).
- Network fundamentals, including VPC design, routing, load balancing, DNS.
- Familiarity with software development methodologies and QA standards.
- Awareness of industry standards and architecture frameworks (such as TOGAF, ITIL).
- Ability to not only architect but also build and implement solutions.
Qualifications:
- Experience integrating or implementing financial systems is a plus.
- Relevant certifications such as AWS Solutions Architect Professional, AWS DevOps Engineer Professional, Microsoft Azure Solutions Architect Expert, Google Cloud Professional Cloud Architect, TOGAF, or equivalent are highly desirable.
