Position Title:     Wealth Management IRA Associate

Location Information  

Onsite – Kansas City, MO

Position Responsibilities:

As a Wealth Management IRA Associate, you will serve as the primary point of contact for Private Client Advisors, playing a key role in the servicing and processing of time-sensitive, high-risk IRA transactions. This role involves providing best-in-class customer service, building strong relationships, and ensuring the timely, complete, and accurate processing of all IRA transaction requests. You will act as a liaison between Private Client Advisors and key internal departments including Operations, Audit, Compliance, Legal, and Tax.

Your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Serving as a trusted partner and the first line of support for Private Client Advisors, accurately addressing requests and inquiries related to IRA accounts.
  • Handling critical customer service needs by building and maintaining strong relationships, understanding Advisor goals, and delivering appropriate support and solutions.
  • Processing a range of IRA distributions, including normal and premature distributions, distributions due to death, internal and external transfers, and ensuring all state and federal withholding is correctly handled.
  • Ensuring that all IRA-related compliance requirements are adhered to, including timely and accurate completion of required distributions and correct account coding for audit and regulatory purposes.
  • Collaborating with Advisors to facilitate Required Minimum Distributions (RMDs) by identifying affected accounts, communicating with clients, and gathering and verifying necessary account data.
  • Maintaining controls and operational standards for all IRA processes, identifying process improvements, and taking an active role in problem resolution.
  • Supporting team members, providing backup coverage during high volume periods or absences to ensure uninterrupted client service.
  • Participating in cross-departmental initiatives and projects that enhance client experience and operational efficiencies within the wealth management division.

 

Essential Skills, Experience

To succeed in this role, you should possess the following skills and experience:

  • 2-5 years of experience in the finance or investment management industry, preferably within wealth management or trust services.
  • Strong understanding and knowledge of IRA products and distribution processes, or willingness to develop expertise in this area.
  • Excellent relationship-building, communication, and customer service skills, with the ability to interact professionally and effectively with both clients and internal colleagues at all levels.
  • Proficiency in critical thinking and independent judgment to solve client problems and ensure compliance with applicable regulations and internal controls.
  • Meticulous attention to detail, high accuracy in processing, and a strong commitment to operational excellence.
  • Team-oriented mindset, with a collaborative approach that fosters teamwork, mutual support, and collective success.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-volume environment requiring effective multitasking and time management.
  • Results-driven and self-motivated, with demonstrated initiative in identifying and driving process improvements.
  • Technical proficiency in PC applications, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access; familiarity with Trust industry systems and terminology preferred.
  • Working knowledge of current IRA, taxation, and compliance regulations is highly desirable.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field preferred. Equivalent work experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
  • Experience working with IRAs or related financial products preferred.
  • Current Certified IRA Services Professional (CISP) designation or willingness to obtain this credential through the American Bankers Association is a plus.
