Position Responsibilities:
As a Test Analyst, you will help ensure monitoring and observability systems are robust, accurate, and fully operational in a complex, multi-environment utility landscape. You will be responsible for validating that monitoring platforms—such as SolarWinds—provide accurate, timely alerts and reliable insight into system performance, particularly during high availability, failover, and performance testing scenarios.
Key responsibilities include:
- Execute and support testing cycles, including system integration, performance, and user acceptance testing.
- Validate monitoring capabilities in scenarios involving failover, high availability, disaster recovery, and during performance testing activities.
- Confirm accurate monitoring coverage across various environments such as QA, production, and disaster recovery.
- Ensure that alerts trigger appropriately and that all required metrics and telemetry are being captured and reported correctly.
- Verify dashboards and reporting tools accurately reflect real system behavior and performance.
- Maintain visibility into monitoring status and system health during transitions, updates, and failure events.
- Identify and document gaps in data collection, alerting logic, and overall monitoring coverage.
- Support troubleshooting efforts in close collaboration with engineering, monitoring, infrastructure, and application teams.
- Work effectively alongside Monitoring Architects, Observability Analysts, and stakeholders to gather input, provide feedback, and recommend improvements.
- Provide clear, actionable insights and recommendations for enhancing monitoring and observability as part of the ongoing transition from build to sustainment phases.
Essential Skills, Experience
- Hands-on experience with system integration, performance, and user acceptance testing in complex technical environments.
- Familiarity with high availability and disaster recovery operations, and capacity to validate system functionality during such events.
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills; ability to identify, analyze, and resolve inconsistencies in system or monitoring behavior.
- Effective analytical skills to correlate alerts, metrics, and logs with underlying system activity and performance.
- Direct experience with monitoring, telemetry, and observability tools, with preference given to those familiar with SolarWinds.
- Understanding of how to validate alerting, metrics, and logging mechanisms, ensuring that monitoring is accurate and actionable.
- Proven ability to validate monitoring effectiveness under real-world operational scenarios and workloads.
- Experience working with multi-environment architectures, supporting environments such as QA, production, and disaster recovery.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate with technical teams and stakeholders to drive corrective actions and improvements.
Qualifications:
- Demonstrated experience with monitoring, observability, or system performance tools (SolarWinds highly preferred).
- Exposure to utility, energy, SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition), DERMS (Distributed Energy Resource Management Systems), or network management systems is highly desirable.
- Experience supporting testing and monitoring in real-time or operational technology environments is a plus.
- Ability to work independently in a remote environment while collaborating effectively with multi-disciplinary teams.
- Strong organizational skills with meticulous attention to detail.
