Position Title: vCISO - Zero Trust Consultant (Part-Time)

Position Responsibilities:
We are seeking an experienced vCISO - Zero Trust Consultant to join our team on a part-time, remote basis. In this strategic role, you will help organizations modernize and secure their digital infrastructure by transitioning from traditional remote access VPNs to advanced private access models with granular security controls.
As a subject matter expert, you will assess current security postures, design roadmaps for adopting zero trust principles, and offer tailored recommendations for controls enhancement. You will collaborate with IT and cybersecurity stakeholders to set requirements, develop best practices, and guide implementation of secure application and endpoint access.
Primary responsibilities include:
- Lead the migration from traditional remote VPN solutions to a private access architecture, ensuring more granular, application-level security controls.
- Advise on and help implement zero trust network frameworks, including authentication, authorization, and segmentation strategies.
- Assess existing endpoint security practices and recommend improvements, with a focus on application controls and endpoint compliance validation.
- Evaluate current cloud security posture with a focus on Microsoft Azure environments, and offer recommendations for hardening and integrating with zero trust models.
- Explore the use of AI and automation in security monitoring and incident response to improve efficiency and effectiveness, where applicable.
- Work with technology teams to create and document migration processes, policies, standards, and best practices for zero trust adoption.
- Provide technical insights and roadmap planning for broader security enhancement initiatives in line with industry best practices.
Essential Skills, Experience
- Demonstrated expertise in consulting organizations on transitioning from legacy remote access VPNs to zero trust, private access solutions.
- Hands-on experience implementing zero trust network architectures, with evidence of leading migrations and change management around access controls and network segmentation.
- Strong background in endpoint security, including configuration and enforcement of application controls, endpoint compliance, and managed device posture assessments.
- Solid understanding of cloud security principles, with a particular emphasis on Microsoft Azure environments — including identity, access management, and integration with on-premises and cloud-based resources.
- Knowledge of leveraging AI tools and automation for security monitoring, analytics, and response is a plus.
- Excellent communication skills, including the ability to articulate complex security concepts and transition requirements to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Proven ability to document best practices, develop security migration roadmaps, and create detailed technical guidance.
- Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and comfortable working in a remote, part-time capacity while balancing multiple priorities.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Information Security, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field preferred (or equivalent work experience).
- Relevant certifications such as CISSP, CISM, CCSP, or Microsoft Security certifications are an asset.
- 5+ years of experience in cybersecurity with at least 2 years focused on zero trust, private access, or similar network architecture migrations.
