Position Title:     Sr Staff Network Engineer – Storage & High-Performance Networking

Position Responsibilities:

As a Sr Staff Network Engineer – Storage & High-Performance Networking, you will play a pivotal role in the design, engineering, configuration, automation, and troubleshooting of complex, high performance network fabrics supporting distributed storage and private cloud infrastructure. This highly technical and hands-on position requires an individual who can analyze network latency, throughput, packet flow, resiliency, and security while contributing to the definition and ongoing evolution of the technical architecture for mission-critical environments.

Key responsibilities include:

• Design and engineer low latency, high throughput data center networks, tuned for performance-sensitive storage and private cloud environments.
• Configure and provide operational support for Nvidia and Mellanox switching technologies as well as Nvidia ConnectX series network interface cards.
• Build and support N+2 and N+3 redundant network topologies, optimizing for high availability, operational resilience, and failover capabilities.
• Implement and troubleshoot advanced routing and network traffic management architectures using protocols such as Border Gateway Protocol (BGP), Open Shortest Path First (OSPF), and configure and manage Quality of Service (QoS).
• Integrate state-of-the-art network fabrics with NVMe over TCP, distributed storage platforms, hyperconverged infrastructure, and private cloud solutions.
• Automate network configuration and operational processes through Infrastructure as Code and related automation tools, enhancing efficiency and repeatability of deployment and monitoring activities.
• Diagnose and resolve complex Linux networking issues, focusing on packet flow, latency, throughput, and end-to-end infrastructure performance.
• Collaborate with Security Engineering to design and enforce network security controls, segmented network zones, and other security requirements.
• Contribute to architecture decisions, provide expert hands-on support, and drive continuous improvement initiatives across large-scale infrastructure environments.

Essential Skills, Experience

• Demonstrable, deep expertise designing and engineering high performance data center network environments.
• Hands-on experience configuring, deploying, and supporting Nvidia and Mellanox networking and switching solutions, as well as Nvidia ConnectX NICs.
• Expert-level knowledge of low latency and high throughput networking, with a strong understanding of storage-centric networking protocols—particularly NVMe over TCP and NVMe over Fabrics.
• Proven skills in advanced routing (BGP, OSPF) and Quality of Service (QoS) configuration and management.
• Strong familiarity with Software Defined Networking architectures and principles.
• Experience supporting networking in distributed storage, hyperconverged environments, private cloud, or similar advanced data center environments.
• Advanced Linux networking troubleshooting abilities; capability to diagnose and solve complex infrastructure and performance issues.
• Design and support for highly available network topologies (N+2, N+3) in production enterprise environments.
• In-depth analytical and trouble-shooting proficiency focused on network latency, packet flow, throughput, and infrastructure bottlenecks.
• Track record of automating network configuration, deployment, monitoring, and operational procedures using Infrastructure as Code or similar tools.
• Comprehensive knowledge of network security concepts; ability to work closely with security engineering to implement segmentation and advanced controls.
• Professional experience in private cloud, large-scale data center, or other enterprise-class infrastructure settings.

Preferred Skills and Experience:

• Hands-on use of SONiC (or other open networking operating systems) and general Software Defined Networking platforms.
• Familiarity with Ceph or other distributed/software-defined storage platforms.
• Experience integrating high performance network fabrics with leading platforms such as Ceph, Nutanix, OpenStack, or Kubernetes.
• Production experience deploying or supporting NVMe over TCP or NVMe over Fabrics at scale.
• Expertise with network automation tools and Infrastructure as Code methodologies.
• Experience supporting and optimizing Dell R660, R760, or comparable servers equipped with high-performance ConnectX networking cards.
• Experience with public cloud networking or private cloud deployment and operations.
• Direct experience implementing security controls and segmentation for storage and high-performance data center environments.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field—or equivalent experience. 10+ years of progressive hands-on experience in high performance networking for data center, storage, or private cloud environments is strongly preferred.
