Position Title:      Senior SQE – Test Automation Engineer

Position Responsibilities:


As a Senior SQE – Test Automation Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in designing, developing, maintaining, and scaling advanced automated test solutions for both web applications and APIs. You will work cross-functionally in an Agile environment, partnering closely with senior engineers and stakeholders to ensure the quality and reliability of software releases. This role emphasizes technical leadership, hands-on automation, and championing quality best practices across the team. Responsibilities include:

  • Lead the development and continuous improvement of robust, scalable automation frameworks supporting web and API testing.
  • Define test strategies and ensure traceability from requirements through test execution, supporting software quality at every stage.
  • Work collaboratively in a cross-functional Agile team, actively participating in daily stand-ups, planning, retrospectives, and other ceremonies.
  • Perform hands-on test case design, automation script development, and execution using advanced frameworks and modern tools.
  • Integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines and support the team in leveraging GitLab and other DevOps tools for streamlined quality assurance processes.
  • Conduct thorough defect triage, support UAT efforts, and communicate openly with technical and business stakeholders to resolve issues.
  • Provide mentorship, guidance, and best practices to less experienced testers, fostering a culture of quality and continuous learning.
  • Contribute technical documentation and maintain code and version control standards.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve application, data, and automation problems while collaborating with peer teams and user groups as needed.
  • Operate with a high degree of autonomy and initiative under moderate to minimal supervision.
  • Expand the automation framework’s capabilities as requirements evolve and ensure seamless integration of new automated tests into the pipeline.
  • Provide excellent customer service to both internal and external partners, consistently upholding high standards of professionalism and collaboration.

 

Essential Skills, Experience


  • Leadership & Technical Strategy: Proven experience operating in a senior or staff-level quality engineering role, with evidence of driving test automation best practices, influencing technical decisions, and leading quality strategy across multiple teams.
  • Test Automation Frameworks: Hands-on expertise with modern automation tools such as Karate Framework or Rest Assured (required), Cucumber, Playwright (strongly preferred), and BDD concepts. Ability to design and implement reusable, data-driven automation solutions.
  • UI Automation: Expertise with Playwright (required/strongly preferred) for robust frontend test automation with TypeScript/JavaScript, including cross-browser testing and integration into CI/CD pipelines.
  • API & Database Proficiency: Deep experience in API test automation (REST, and optionally SOAP), API validation, microservices testing (including authentication via OAuth, JWT), SQL proficiency for Oracle databases, and strong data validation skills.
  • Performance Testing: Demonstrated experience utilizing JMeter (design, parameterization, correlation) and BlazeMeter for performance/load testing, including thorough performance analysis and bottleneck identification.
  • Continuous Integration: Experience integrating test suites into CI/CD pipelines (with GitLab, Jenkins, or similar) and using Git-based workflows; Docker or other containerization exposure is a plus.
  • Manual Testing Excellence: Advanced exploratory and risk-based testing skills; ability to validate complex business workflows, edge cases, and provide clear, comprehensive defect reports.
  • Collaboration & Mentorship: Ability to mentor other QA engineers, lead UAT, actively participate in Agile practices, and communicate quality risks and results to technical and business audiences.
  • SDLC & Agile Methodologies: Strong grasp of software development and testing life cycles; familiarity with Agile Scrum, Kanban, and/or SAFe environments.
  • Technical Troubleshooting: Ability to diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve software and data issues efficiently in a collaborative Agile environment.
  • Documentation: Experience writing and maintaining technical documentation as needed to support development and QA processes.
  • Professionalism & Customer Service: Keen attention to detail, proactive learning attitude, and a commitment to providing excellent internal and external customer service.

Nice to have:

  • Experience with monitoring/observability platforms (e.g., New Relic), basic security testing knowledge (OWASP), and exposure to cloud platforms (AWS).
  • Experience in scripting (Java, JavaScript, TypeScript) and familiarity with AI-driven testing tools is a plus.
