Position Title:   Health & Safety Compliance Engineer

Location Information 

Santa Clara/San Jose, CA – Onsite, Full-Time Role

Position Responsibilities:

We are seeking a dedicated Health & Safety Compliance Engineer to join our team and ensure robust environmental, health, and safety processes throughout our data center and lab operations. This onsite role is focused on partnering with technicians, engineers, and designers to identify and mitigate health and safety risks for operational staff and critical infrastructure. Core responsibilities include:

  • Collaborate with data center and rack lab operations teams to ensure compliance with health and safety (H&S) programs, procedures, and training initiatives.
  • Work closely with environmental compliance managers for data gathering and facility inspections concerning hazardous, non-hazardous, and e-waste management, Ozone Depleting Substances (ODS) inventory, and regulatory reporting requirements.
  • Collect and analyze workplace safety data (including sound level measurements) and conduct risk assessments to identify and mitigate hazards related to worker health and safety.
  • Review standard operating procedures (SOPs), emergency operating procedures, and other work tasks to assess for health and safety risks, prepare reports, and recommend improvements to minimize risks.
  • Support implementation and facilitation of workshops and training classes for operational staff on topics including hazard recognition, hazard assessment, life safety inspections, hazard communication and chemical safety, heat and cold stress, air quality, and working at heights.
  • Participate in regular facility inspections and audits to ensure adherence to ISO standards, national and local safety requirements, operational procedures, and internal safety programs.
  • Assist engineering and operations teams in effective chemical and waste management, maintaining chemical inventories and Safety Data Sheets (SDS), and conducting inspections and supervision of hazardous waste disposal practices.

 

Essential Skills, Experience

The ideal candidate should bring the following skills, experience, and expertise:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field (occupational safety, environmental engineering, industrial hygiene, or equivalent) or equivalent experience in an industrial or research setting.
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in health and safety compliance.
  • Solid knowledge of electrical safety regulations and compliance standards applicable to data center or laboratory environments.
  • Proven experience in reviewing and analyzing work procedures for operational hazards, hazard mitigation, and performing risk assessments or job hazard analyses.
  • Proficiency in developing, implementing, and continuously improving operating procedures to comply with internal and regulatory requirements.
  • Ability to conduct and document inspections, risk assessments, and compliance audits against established health and safety programs.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, especially for delivering training and collaborating with diverse technical and operational teams.

The following qualifications and experiences are a plus:

  • Previous experience in a research and development environment, particularly reviewing experimental equipment for safety hazards.
  • Familiarity with environmental, health, and safety auditing processes, policies, and procedures, especially as they relate to ISO standards.
  • Experience supporting or leading successful ISO audits within operational or engineering environments.
  • Expertise in data center operations with a particular focus on health and safety management.
  • Health and safety certifications such as OSHA 30 or a similar credential.
