Position Title:      Sr. VCF Engineer

Location Information  Remote – EST Time Zone

 

Position Responsibilities:

The Sr. VCF (VMware Cloud Foundation) Engineer is responsible for automating, integrating, and orchestrating cloud infrastructure deployments using VMware and related technologies. This position will focus on the green field implementation and ongoing automation of VCF environments, with a strong emphasis on Aria Automation, vRealize Orchestrator, Python scripting, and Infrastructure as Code. The ideal candidate will have deep technical experience with automation strategies, cloud deployments, and relevant VMware product APIs.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Lead and execute tasks for green field implementation of VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF), ensuring best practices for scalable and secure deployments.
  • Analyze new and existing cloud environments and provide recommendations for optimal green field VCF deployments.
  • Design and deploy solutions into environments with custom containerization requirements, accounting for specific customer automation and integration needs.
  • Plan, develop, and integrate VCF automation using Aria Automation 8, including the implementation of Assembler Templates, Extensibility, and Service Broker Policies.
  • Author and troubleshoot Aria Automation appliance deployments and configurations to ensure robust service readiness.
  • Design and implement custom forms, resource actions, advanced tagging, and integrate automation workflows across the VMware ecosystem.
  • Develop, maintain, and optimize custom workflows and actions using VCF Operations Orchestrator (Aria Orchestrator/vRealize Orchestrator), leveraging advanced scripting techniques and extensibility features.
  • Utilize strong Git workflows and CI/CD processes for version control, code release, and ongoing automation delivery.
  • Write production-grade Python code, including automated testing and robust error-handling, structured for clean code standards and maintainability.
  • Utilize Infrastructure as Code solutions (such as Ansible and/or Terraform) to manage infrastructure, develop custom modules, plugins, and ensure automated deployments are idempotent and scalable.
  • Automate and interface with VMware products including vCenter, vSphere APIs, Aria Suite environments, and NSX using programmatic approaches or API interactions.
  • Troubleshoot, document, and support automated processes, ensuring effective monitoring, logging, and telemetry across infrastructure and workflows.

 

Essential Skills, Experience


  • Demonstrated hands-on experience with VCF Automation, specifically Aria Automation 8 (vRealize Automation), including advanced features like Assembler Templates, Custom Resource Actions, Extensibility Subscriptions, Advanced Constraint Tagging, and Custom Forms.
  • Proven ability to deploy, configure, and troubleshoot Aria Automation appliances, integrating with Service Broker and enforcing deployment policies.
  • Expertise with VCF Operations Orchestrator (Aria Orchestrator/vRealize Orchestrator), developing custom workflows and actions, configuration and resource elements, and policies.
  • Deep scripting proficiency using ES5 Javascript for orchestrator environments, in addition to experience with Polyglot Actions and the creation of custom environments.
  • Familiarity with out-of-the-box Git repository integrations and code release methodologies (branching, package export/import, versioning).
  • Strong Python programming skills, focusing on production-quality code, testing, code quality gates, structured logging, and robust error handling.
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools (Ansible and/or Terraform), including writing custom roles, inventories, Jinja templating, creating custom modules/plugins, and maintaining idempotent, reusable playbooks or configuration scripts.
  • Proficient in using vCenter/vSphere APIs, knowledge of Aria Suite API interactions, and foundational experience with NSX APIs for automation purposes.
  • History of successfully integrating and automating complex, multi-platform cloud infrastructures with custom containerization requirements.
  • Excellent documentation, communication, and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to work in a distributed and dynamic team environment.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field preferred, or equivalent work experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in cloud automation, VMware environments, or related systems engineering roles.
  • Relevant VMware or cloud automation certifications are a plus.
