Position Title: Data Analyst
Location Information Remote
Position Responsibilities:
As a Data Analyst with a focus on healthcare eligibility data, you will play a crucial role in analyzing, validating, and mapping raw healthcare data from multiple sources. Your primary responsibilities will include:
- Analyzing, validating, and comparing healthcare eligibility data from multiple sources (such as hospital facilities, EDI files, and internal enrollment systems).
- Designing, writing, and optimizing T-SQL queries, stored procedures, and scripts to extract, transform, and analyze data efficiently.
- Producing recurring and ad-hoc reports related to membership, eligibility status, attribution, enrollment trends, and data quality metrics.
- Investigating data anomalies, discrepancies, and eligibility mismatches, providing thorough root-cause analysis and actionable recommendations for corrective measures.
- Maintaining data accuracy and completeness across eligibility datasets and working together with data engineers to enhance data pipelines, file-processing jobs, and overall database performance.
- Collaborating cross-functionally with operations, IT, revenue cycle, and compliance teams to ensure eligibility data supports vital business processes.
- Translating business requirements into analytical approaches and delivering clear, actionable insights to stakeholders.
- Actively ensuring that all data management aligns with HIPAA, PHI, and organizational security policies.
- Documenting eligibility data structures, data flows, and SQL processes in a clear and maintainable manner.
- Creating user-friendly documentation and definitions of eligibility fields, metrics, and logic for non-technical audiences.
Essential Skills, Experience
To excel in this position, you should bring the following experience and competencies:
- 3+ years of hands-on experience working with healthcare eligibility, enrollment, or membership data.
- Demonstrated expertise in PostgreSQL and Microsoft SQL Server (MSSQL), including proficiency in T-SQL scripting, query optimization, joins, indexing, and stored procedures.
- Familiarity with healthcare data formats, particularly EDI formats such as 270/271, 835, or payer roster files.
- Proven ability to work with large and complex datasets, identify patterns/trends, and diagnose data quality issues.
- Experience operating within HIPAA-regulated environments and handling PHI data securely and appropriately.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills, with high attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills—able to distill technical concepts for business and non-technical audiences.
- Experience collaborating cross-functionally and translating business questions into technical analysis and meaningful insights.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize multiple initiatives, and deliver results in a fast-paced environment.
- Commitment to maintaining thorough documentation and following compliance requirements.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Data Analytics, Information Systems, Computer Science, Health Informatics, or a related field; or equivalent experience in lieu of a degree.
- Preferred: Experience with ETL tools such as Matillion ETL, SSMS/SSIS, Azure Data Factory, or Informatica.
- Preferred: Knowledge of healthcare payer systems, provider networks, ACO/IPA environments, or value-based care programs.
- Preferred: Understanding of relational database design, normalization, and performance optimization.
- Preferred: Experience with data visualization tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or Looker.
