Position Title:     Senior System Engineer

Location Information  

Hybrid – Kansas City, MO or Topeka, KS (To Be Determined)

Position Responsibilities:

As a Senior System Engineer, you will play a key role in the deployment, design, installation, configuration, and maintenance of infrastructure applications, virtualization environments, and Windows operating systems. Your primary responsibilities will include:

• Guiding installation, upgrade, and configuration of core infrastructure applications, both on-premises and in virtualized environments.
• Monitoring and testing infrastructure applications to anticipate and mitigate potential points of failure, and recommending effective solutions.
• Developing and maintaining detailed infrastructure applications and system configuration documentation to support ongoing operations and compliance requirements.
• Providing advanced, Level 2 and Level 3 technical support and guidance for systems-related issues, using your expertise to ensure prompt and thorough resolution.
• Offering technical leadership within the Infrastructure team by helping define and implement strategies to achieve departmental objectives.
• Installing, configuring, upgrading, and supporting virtualization software and hardware hypervisors, particularly leveraging VMWare technologies.
• Leading installation and upgrades for both virtual and physical Windows Server operating systems.
• Coaching and mentoring less experienced system engineers, fostering skill development and knowledge sharing within the team.

Essential Skills, Experience

• Thorough understanding of standard concepts, best practices, and procedures related to Windows administration in enterprise environments.
• Experience working with multiple operating and networking systems, with demonstrated expertise in at least one core system (Windows, Linux, etc.).
• Comprehensive hands-on experience deploying, managing, and troubleshooting server hardware and VMWare hypervisors.
• Strong communication skills, including the ability to effectively interact with individuals at all organizational levels, both technical and non-technical.
• A collaborative mindset with the ability to build positive working relationships across IT and business departments.
• Demonstrated ability to research and identify innovative solutions to complex technical challenges.
• Expertise in diagnosing and resolving systems hardware and software issues, while adhering to internal compliance and management standards.
• Effective planning capabilities to manage multiple projects and tasks, ensuring completion on time and within budget.
• Sound judgment and decision-making skills, with the flexibility to adapt to rapidly changing priorities and multi-tasking in dynamic environments.
• Familiarity with key infrastructure concepts including server hardware, storage systems, operating systems, VMWare virtualization, backup strategies, Active Directory, and blade enclosures.
• Proven leadership ability, with experience leading teams or directing the work of other IT professionals as needed.
• A high degree of creativity and problem-solving skills, with a continuous improvement mindset.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field and a minimum of 4 years of systems administration experience; or
• 5+ years of progressive systems administration experience with a concentration in virtualization and physical infrastructure hardware environments.
