Position Title: CAD Technician (Contract)
Location Information Kansas City, MO (Onsite)
Position Responsibilities:
As a contract CAD Technician, you will provide essential support to the Substation Engineering team by managing, revising, and updating engineering drawings. Working closely with the Document Manager and Engineering Analysts, your primary focus will be on document management activities, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of technical documents throughout various phases of substation projects. Your role will expand to assist with technical liaison activities between engineering and field personnel, supporting the creation and maintenance of construction drawing packages using Autodesk CAD tools.
- Revise and update existing engineering drawings based on as-built field corrections under direction from the Document Manager and Engineering Analysts.
- After training, update and manage Issued for Construction (IFC) drawing packages.
- Support the management and organization of internal and external vendor drawings and supporting technical documents.
- Assist in gathering the latest technical information and drawings required for substations and related projects.
- Create new material-coded 3D parts for electrical substation models using Autodesk Vault and related Autodesk products.
- Generate accurate drawings based on one-line diagrams and substation standards, contributing to the larger engineering documentation set.
- Publish new Issued for Construction (IFC) drawing packages as part of project delivery workflow.
- Liaise as required (with training) between engineering teams and field personnel for facility construction and maintenance projects.
- Demonstrate a strong commitment to accuracy, detail, and adherence to document and drawing standards.
- Participate in optional field visits for training purposes as needed (minimal or no required travel).
Essential Skills, Experience
- Education and demonstrated proficiency in the use of Autodesk CAD software products (such as AutoCAD; familiarity with Autodesk Vault is a plus).
- Experience with CAD drafting in a professional or technical capacity; several years is preferred, however, talented recent graduates in a technology-related field will be considered.
- Strong computer literacy, with proven ability in the Microsoft Office suite, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for effective collaboration with engineering and document management teams.
- Superior attention to detail, with an ability to self-review and ensure accuracy of all drawings and documents produced.
- Proven ability to accept and act on guidance and feedback to improve quality and accuracy of work.
- Demonstrated persistence, a positive attitude, and commitment to team-oriented environments.
- Experience with or exposure to engineering drawings for utility substation environments is an asset, but not required.
- Customer service orientation and collaborative team-building skills are valued.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a detail-driven, deadline-oriented setting.
- Commitment to accuracy over speed; meticulous approach to document and drawing management.
Qualifications:
- Associate’s degree or higher in a technical field (Drafting, Engineering Technology, or related discipline) preferred. Recent graduates with equivalent training and demonstrated CAD expertise will also be considered.
- Relevant certification in Autodesk CAD software is a plus.
