Position Title: VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) Architect
Location Information Remote – U.S. based
Position Responsibilities:
As a VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) Architect, you will be responsible for the end-to-end assessment, design, and deployment of VMware Cloud Foundation version 9 (VCF 9) within a customer’s existing virtual infrastructure. Your goal will be to help deliver a standardized, automated, and scalable hybrid-cloud infrastructure that meets stringent business and technical requirements.
Your primary responsibilities will include:
- Assessment & Planning
- Assessing the readiness of existing VMware infrastructure (including vSphere, vSAN, and NSX) for integration with VCF 9.
- Validating hardware compatibility, network configuration, and licensing requirements in line with project objectives.
- Documenting existing architectural state and identifying technical gaps or remediation areas.
- Environment Preparation
- Preparing ESXi hosts, firmware, BIOS settings, networking, and vSAN configuration for VCF 9 deployment.
- Configuring essential networking services: VLANs, IP schemas, DNS, and NTP services.
- Deploying and validating VCF 9 imaging/bring-up bundles to ensure a stable launch environment.
- VCF 9 Deployment
- Deploying the VCF 9 Management Domain while minimizing disruption to existing services.
- Configuring vCenter Server, SDDC Manager, and vSAN clusters (if applicable).
- Conducting rigorous post-deployment validation of all management components.
- Integration & Configuration
- Integrating existing VMware resources such as identity sources, backup solutions, and monitoring tools as required.
- Configuring automated lifecycle management, workload domain templates, and implementing policy-driven operations via SDDC Manager.
- Applying role-based access controls and enforcing cloud security best practices.
- Knowledge Transfer
- Preparing detailed operational handoff documentation, including as-built architecture and configuration runbooks.
- Delivering hands-on knowledge-transfer sessions covering SDDC Manager, vCenter modifications, and lifecycle operations to empower IT operations teams for long-term success.
Deliverables include:
- Comprehensive VCF 9 architecture design documentation
- Fully validated and functioning VCF 9 Management Domain
- Configuration documentation and as-built runbooks supporting future operations
Note: This position does not include migration of existing workloads into VCF 9, deployment of additional workload domains (unless specified), or tasks related to non-VMware infrastructure.
Essential Skills, Experience
- Proven experience architecting, deploying, and operationalizing VMware Cloud Foundation (ideally v9 or recent versions) in production enterprise environments
- Deep technical knowledge of VMware vSphere, vSAN, NSX, SDDC Manager, and related VMware core components
- Hands-on expertise with ESXi host configuration, vSAN cluster setup, network and storage planning, and integration with enterprise services (DNS, NTP, identity sources, etc.)
- Demonstrated ability to create technical documentation including architecture diagrams, runbooks, and as-built summaries
- Ability to perform detailed assessments of virtualized environments and deliver comprehensive reports and remediation plans
- Experience with lifecycle management operations, automated upgrades, and patch management within VMware environments
- Strong understanding of security best practices, RBAC, and enterprise integration protocols
- Excellent communication and presentation skills; ability to deliver clear knowledge transfer and operational handoff sessions to technical teams
- Ability to work independently in a remote engagement model, collaborating via digital tools and project management platforms
