Position Title:     Intermediate QA Automation & Application Support Subject Matter Expert (SME)

Location Information  Washington, D.C. (U.S. Citizenship Required)

 

Position Responsibilities:


As an Intermediate QA Automation & Application Support Subject Matter Expert (SME), you will be a key contributor to the successful delivery and support of business-critical applications within a collaborative Agile/Scrum environment. You will interact closely with technical leads, developers, and business stakeholders to ensure the highest standards of software quality and operational stability. Your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Working collaboratively with technical leads, developers, and business users to interpret requirements and develop effective test strategies and plans.
  • Designing, developing, and maintaining robust automated test scripts utilizing Selenium to validate crucial application functionality across various browsers and platforms.
  • Creating and executing both manual and automated test cases to perform functional, integration, regression, and smoke testing for ongoing quality assurance.
  • Managing test artifacts by leveraging Azure DevOps Test Plans/Test Cases or equivalent tools to assure full traceability of requirements and user stories.
  • Participating in GitLab-based workflows, including code version control, code reviews, and merge requests, and ensuring tight integration with CI/CD pipelines for continuous delivery.
  • Identifying, documenting, prioritizing, and tracking software defects using Jira or similar bug tracking platforms, and collaborating with developers to resolve and verify fixes through the defect lifecycle.
  • Conducting back-end and database validation using SQL to confirm data integrity and proper system behaviors.
  • Supporting performance and reliability testing efforts using appropriate performance testing solutions as needed.
  • Providing production support by troubleshooting user-reported issues, performing root cause analysis, validating fixes, and communicating resolution status to key stakeholders.
  • Contributing to process improvement by refining test automation frameworks, increasing test coverage, and enhancing test execution efficiency in alignment with best practices.
  • Adhering to established quality standards, test design techniques (such as boundary value analysis and equivalence partitioning), and Agile/Scrum delivery methodologies.

 

Essential Skills, Experience


  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Demonstrated intermediate-level experience in software quality assurance testing and application support for mission-critical systems.
  • Proven hands-on experience in building and maintaining test automation solutions with Selenium.
  • Ability to proficiently create and execute detailed test cases, comprehensive test plans, and overall test strategies.
  • Experience with test management tools such as Azure DevOps Test Plans/Test Cases or similar, with a focus on documenting and tracing requirements.
  • Strong background in defect tracking and analysis using Jira or equivalent platforms.
  • Practical working knowledge of SQL for executing database queries and validation tasks.
  • Familiarity with version control systems and collaborative workflows, with a preference for GitLab.
  • Understanding of CI/CD concepts, tools, and integration for supporting automated build/test/deploy processes.
  • Solid understanding of Agile/Scrum software development methodologies and experience working effectively as part of Scrum teams.
  • Foundational knowledge of web application technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) and their impact on testing approaches.
  • Strong analytical troubleshooting and structured defect isolation skills.
  • Meticulous documentation and test artifact discipline to ensure auditability and traceability.
  • Experience in productive collaboration with stakeholders, accompanied by clear and professional status reporting.
  • A quality-first mindset and strong customer/user experience orientation.
  • Adaptability and agility in fast-paced, iterative work environments.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or equivalent professional experience is preferred.
  • Experience with performance testing tools (such as JMeter, LoadRunner, Gatling, or k6) is a plus.
  • Familiarity with modern test automation frameworks (e.g., TestNG, JUnit, PyTest) and design patterns, especially the page object model, is advantageous.
  • Experience testing in cloud environments or using DevOps tooling for automated quality gates is desirable.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a proven record of effective teamwork in both technical and business-facing capacities.
