Senior Programmer Analyst II (Java)
Client is seeking a Senior Java Developer to fill a role on our User Interface/Business Intelligence team. Incumbent participates in all phases of application development and support for highly complex projects/applications. Independently performs advanced/highly complex tasks and assignments. Assists with identifying and executing appropriate technologies and methodologies in order to implement applications/solutions. While advanced knowledge of a few, core areas of development and technology are required, the right candidate should possess very strong general analytical and problem solving skills.
Participates in all phases of the Software Development Life Cycle to implement highly complex applications/technology solutions. Utilizes industry, System, and department standards/best practices.
Responsible for independently designing, coding, and documenting solutions – making technical design and coding decisions independently on a daily basis, within the scope of architectural guidance. Analyzes requirements and develops associated technical design. Actively participates in development cycle (90-100% of allocated duties).
Provides direction and guidance to less-experienced staff. Advises on policies, procedures, and best practices. Participates in design and quality reviews.
Actively participates in creation and execution of unit and integration testing.
Actively proposes continuous improvements regarding technologies and processes in order to increase organizational efficiency and application effectiveness/performance.
Interacts with business partners in a support role. Participates in technical design, problem identification/resolution, and other support activities.
Bachelor’s degree specializing in information systems, technology, or equivalent education and work experience.
6 years of software development experience.
Advanced knowledge of industry standards/best practices surrounding all aspects of the Software Development Life Cycle.
Demonstrated proficiency in relational database systems (DB2 a plus).
Demonstrated proficiency with hand-written SQL and troubleshooting/performance tuning.
Demonstrated proficiency with UNIX/Linux (e.g. shell scripting).
Demonstrated proficiency with Web Application Frameworks (e.g. JSF, Spring MVC, Grails, etc…).
Demonstrated proficiency with modern ORM technology (e.g. Hibernate, JPA, etc…).
Demonstrated proficiency with Java Enterprise Applications (e.g. J2EE, Spring, etc…).
Demonstrated proficiency with Unit Testing, UML, Design Patterns, Object Oriented Design, MVC patterns.
Demonstrated proficiency with Agile software development principles.
Demonstrated ability to adapt and learn new technologies (e.g. Web Services, MQ Series, Groovy/Grails, etc…).
Experience with business intelligence development/tools preferred (e.g. Information Builders, IBM, Oracle – Information Builders WebFOCUS a plus).
Experience developing data warehouse applications preferred.
Experience with data modeling/related concepts a plus.
Moderate to advanced oral and written communication skills.
Moderate to advanced organization skills.
Basic to moderate project management skills.
Moderate to advanced interpersonal skills.
Advanced customer service skills.
Demonstrated initiative and ability to produce desired results.
